The Greater Prescott Area - includes Chino Valley, Prescott Valley and Dewey-Humboldt/Mayer This High desert community is filled with attractive amenities that draw you to it. When I first visited, almost a decade ago, the mild weather and deep blue skies with little white clouds bouncing along appealed to something in me, after living in a smog filled area for years. The wide open expanses of valleys with mountains surrounding felt at once free and limitless.
Downtown Prescott has kept its history alive through its Courthouse Square and Whiskey Row, with shops and eating/drinking establishments, surrounded by residential areas with numerous Victorian homes. The World's Oldest Rodeo around the 4th of July is always a big draw to those who enjoy a touch of the old west where cowboys rode broncs and bulls.
Excellent health care options are available, as well as educational opportunities, Major shopping centers are within a short drive and Phoenix is less than a two hour drive south. Recreational activities available include fishing, camping, hunting, miles of hiking and equestrian trails along with historical landmarks and scenic drives. There are several golf courses within a short distance, plus numerous lakes and picnic areas.
With around 5000' elevations, the mild four seasons allow for plenty of outdoor activities. The occasional snow is usually little more than a dusting that is fun and beautiful, but seldom inhibits car travel, except on our surrounding mountains that get up over 7000' elevation.
Before moving here, I had heard of the summer monsoons as being delightful, since they tend to blow in quickly, cool the air 10-20 degrees and then blow out again, leaving pleasant, moist air behind. This is usually during July and August.
We have numerous places to stay while visiting the area, from quaint to new and contemporary, and it is worth a trip here to appreciate the wealth of opportunities and amenities tucked away in such a delightful setting. We hope to see you soon!
